Surrey has four Custody Centres within the force area; the combined number of detainees per annum is approximately 20 000. At present there are 70 cells force wide with plans to increase this number to 82. The four Custody Centres are located within:

— Guildford Borough,

— Reigate & Banstead Borough,

— Spelthorne Borough,

— Woking Borough.

Surrey Police covers an area of approximately 642 Square miles, with a population of 1.1 million people.

The aim of this contract is to provide 24 hour/7 days a week Medical Health Provision to persons using the custody facilities at any of the four Custody Centres, thus ensuring Surrey Police adhere to the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984 and the Safer Detention & Handling of Persons in Police Custody Manual 2006 in relation to persons detained. To cater for their physical, medical, mental health issues and forensic investigation requirements, with occasional field forensic duties, the following services may be required:

— Single Point of Contact for any Service Required,

— Telephone Advice,

— Paramedic Response,

— Attendance of Qualified Nurse,

— Attendance of Qualified Doctor.
