Complexity of the project: exceptionally demanding
The preliminary schedule of the project is presented in the project plan. A change in the schedule does not entitle the holder to the presentation of additional costs.
The Espoo Cultural Centre and the theatre building, which will be an extension of it, are located in the RKY area of Tapiola.
A new reference plan has been drawn up for the extension, which includes the theatre hall of the Cultural Centre, starting from the development of the Tapiola Centre as a whole. In it, the extension is mainly located on earth, fixed in connection with the cultural center.
The architect's current plans have sought to minimise the need for the extension to require as few structural changes as possible in the cultural centre (see Appendices 03b Preliminary Spatial Programme and 04 ARK_plaanit and Cuts). However, the design of theatre technology must take into account the coordination of the theatre extension and the cultural centre (see Appendix 01 Mechanics of a theatre consultant job description).
According to the plan, the theatre expansion will be located in the part of the VU area of Tapionkenttä in the northwest corner of the cultural centre in accordance with the current plan. The theatre hall is connected to the cultural centre by a warm covered corridor located next to the pedestrian and cycle path on the west side of the current cultural centre. The assignment also includes the planning of the Culture Square so that it has the capacity to organise various events.
For the delimitation of the construction project, see "Appendix 03c Delimitation of the design area".
