RWS has far-reaching ambitions in the field of sustainability. These ambitions can only be achieved
be realized if sustainable products, such as sustainable asphalt, can be used
within the works of RWS. Asphalt is one of the largest material flows at Rijkswaterstaat and
causes more than 30% of the CO2 emissions from RWS. Partly due to the establishment of the Transition Path
Sustainable Road Surfaces (to which the ITC contributes) RWS wants to ensure that this market this new
develops sustainable asphalt types and can then apply them. The requirement to be allowed to do so
is to be able to go through a successful validation process. The use of (test) knowledge
of TU Delft is necessary to be able to carry out these validation assessments properly. Within the
Transition path Sustainable Road Surfaces participate in a large number of components, in particular WVL, GPO,
PPO and the Region. The role of ITC (part WVL) is to supervise the (custom) validation
of innovative sustainable asphalts. Only after a successful conclusion
