Description of the assignment
Subject of these services: Layout files for maintenance, restoration, renovation and restoration of various protected buildings at Sint-Trudo Abbey in Sint-Truiden.
Designation of a consultancy or design office for the phased design study and execution of the works related to the various services:
— Renovation work on the academic hall,
— Rehabilitation and maintenance work on the abbey tower and Baroque gate,
— Renovation works on the roof above the crypt,
— Valorisation of public access on the churchfield instead of accessibility for visitors with disabilities,
— Cascorerestoration of the gatehouse.
Note: Saint Trudo Abbey is, in its present state, the result of a very long development history. This history has left a rich tradition and a special heritage. Throughout its history as abbey, pilgrimage site and later small seminary, the abbey has evolved and frequently rebuilt. Together with the abbey site, and in strong synergy, the city of Sint-Truiden was formed around the abbey walls. This makes the abbey a crucial place in the city both historically, spatially and socially.
The entire site is owned by the Board of the Seminar Hasselt and was partly leased to the city of Sint-Truiden. The city of Sint-Truiden has a major responsibility in the maintenance and management of this heritage.
The assignment concerns several isolated heritage assets on the site of Saint Trudo Abbey, in leasehold of the city of Sint-Truiden. It includes research into the restoration of the gate building, maintenance and renovation works on the academic hall, the abbey tower and baroque gate and the crypt, but also a vision of the terrain and construction of the church field in function of accessibility for people with disabilities.
It is an integral task linking different disciplines of architecture, heritage conservation, landscapes and archaeology, with the main focus being pure, technical restoration work “an sich”. Essentially, the assignment is focused on perpetuating the current state of the abbey tower and baroque gate, the academic hall and the crypt. At the gate building, the assignment is more complex: this structure will be given a new function in the future. In addition to the consolidation, interpretations are also required for architectural additions or changes within the general framework of the protection of this building part and the protection of the site.
