The city of Straelen has to renovate the premises of the European Translators' College of North Rhine-Westphalia in Straelen e.V. (EÜK) due to fundamental fire protection deficiencies. This requires major conversion measures on the basis of an approved fire protection concept.

The building complex is located in the middle of the old city center of Straelen and consists of 6 building parts, which were brought together by the reconstruction between 1983 and 1990. The seminar house as an individual part of the building is connected to the rest, listed complex via a connecting bridge.
On an area of around 2,500 square meters and 3 floors, guest apartments, several conference and seminar rooms and kitchens are available as well as the world's largest special library with 125,000 volumes in 400 languages and dialects, which is specially tailored to the needs of literary translators.
