As part of the realignment of the heat generation and heat supply structure, Stadtwerke Tübingen GmbH is planning to build a solar thermal system on the "AU" site adjacent to Eisenbahnstrasse in Tübingen. The area is located between Reutlinger Straße, Bundesstraße B27 and Eisenbahnstraße. This is a Zone II A water protection area (see LUBW Appendix). Protection zone II for groundwater (narrower protection zone) must ensure protection against contamination by pathogenic micro-organisms as well as against other adverse effects that are dangerous when the flow time and distance to the water extraction plant is short. Stadtwerke Tübingen (swt) operates eight district heating networks in Tübingen with a total length of around 59
Km. A total of around 1,400 connections are supplied and annual heat sales amount to around 170,000 MWh/a.
