Current special challenges in the field of vehicle brakes lie in the characterization of the basic aerodynamic relationships within sampling systems or in the frame wheel house, as well as the derivation of avoidance measures. The description of the highly dynamic, highly turbulent flow conditions in interaction with the different particle size distributions represents a major hurdle in the targeted influencing of the particle emissions of the vehicle brake. The procurement of a high-speed PIV (2D-2C) serves for the highly dynamic visualization of speed and Acceleration fields and turbulence variables in transient flow processes. The PIV system thus serves as an extension to a 2D-3C-PIV system already available at the TU Ilmenau.
