Energinet reroutes 25 km of existing gas pipeline on Western Funen. A new pipeline located further north will facilitate the construction of a high-speed railway. The existing pipeline (to be taken out of use) will be decommissioned as soon as the new pipeline is in operation. The pipeline to be decommissioned will partly be removed that means app. 13 km to be decommissioned and app. 12 km will stay in the ground. In addition to the pipeline the decommissioning includes decommissioning of two (2) valve stations.

In total 13 km pipeline must be removed from the ground. The 13 km pipeline includes a number of separate sections of different length. Each section must be cut into lengths allowing for transport on public roads. Another 12 km pipeline will be left in the ground.

Pipeline sections left in the ground crossing major public roads must be filled with suitable materials. Sections left in the ground must be blocked in the ends and longer sections must be separated by additional blockings to prevent water flow in the pipeline.
