Motivation and background for the surveillance programme:

More than 2 700 areas in Norway are protected and the protected areas constitute more than 16 % of Norway’s area. It is a major demand to obtain knowledge of condition and alterations in the condition for protected areas in Norway.

The area representative surveillance is a way to generate data for condition and alterations in Norwegian protected areas. The programme is divided in 2. The first part put special focus on intervention, drainage and clogging in Norwegian moor reserves. Part 2 includes focus on all Norwegian protected areas.

The intention is that the surveillance programme shall primarily describe the condition related to intervention, drainage, line elements, blogging and alteration of the timber line (area with wooded land) in Norwegian protected areas and Norwegian moor reserves. The programme shall also reveal alterations over time related to the measured variables and characteristics.
