Riddle's Court is an A-listed merchant's house of the sixteenth century. The existing buildings are to be repaired and altered and facilities and services upgraded to form the Patrick Geddes Centre. Spaces will be used for learning, meetings, performances, exhibitions, conferences, events and community uses. The building will also house offices for SHBT and other conservation or education organisations plus a residential flat.
The repair work will include stonework repairs, lime render and pointing repairs to all windows and doors plus a substantial overhaul of the roofs including temporary over-roof protection to reduce risk to the historic interiors. The work also includes specialist conservation of the historic interiors, including painted ceilings.
New interventions include some reorganisation of interior spaces and the installation of a lift. Services and facilities will be renewed throughout, including the installation of air source heat pumps and PV panels, toilets, tea preps, catering kitchen and café.
