As part of the BMVI funding guideline "Digitization of municipal transport systems" of the "Clean Air Immediate Program 2017 to 2020", the Rhein-Neckar transport association and the city of Mannheim want to strengthen the link between public transport and bicycles. Accordingly, the aim was to develop a group-wide B + R concept. This should be made possible, among other things, by setting up high-quality and secure bicycle parking facilities. In addition, there should be electronic system access for the lockable storage facilities to enable access using a smartphone. Such a system is intended to enable reservations and short-term or short-term use of corresponding systems. On this basis, around 30 plants in the VRN network area are to be made more attractive. As a first step, nine locations with a total of 91 boxes are to be built in the city of Mannheim and in the cities of Bad Dürkheim and Hockenheim. An expansion to further locations is planned in the coming years.
