VIB wishes to purchase & implement a software solution for the management of its lab workflows. An Electronic Lab Notebook (ELN) is a tool designed to help scientists document research, ensure reproducibility, and share information more easily.

The functionalities of an electronic lab notebook include:

- An intuitive interface to capture and organize data, it's a digital equivalent of a paper lab book.

- Documents of different file types must be able to be linked to the ELN.

- The ability to use templates and protocols. This allows us to create reproducible data and follow standard procedures.

- Version control and audit trail: document versions are automatically managed and changes can be tracked for audit objectives.

- Inventory functions for recording and tracing samples/reagents.

- Collaboration tools for sharing experimental information.
