Description:
General contractor FFB Münster 1st construction phase

The NRW. URBAN GmbH & Co. KG (client) intends to build a new building including technical equipment and associated outdoor facilities to accommodate the research production battery cell (FFB) at the Münster location. The client acts in trust for the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, which finances the construction project with state funds. As the operator of the FFB and user of the new building, the Fraunhofer Society for the Promotion of Applied Research e. V. (FhG).

The research production battery cell FFB is intended to accelerate the innovation process for the development of new cell production concepts and their implementation in industrial production. It thus complements the BMBF umbrella concept “Research Factory Battery” with the module “Battery Cell Production” and the excellent research scene in Germany with another crucial component in the field of large-scale battery cell production.

The core offer of the FFB is the evaluation of the scalability of innovative, industry-relevant cell production concepts, which include and further develop the already existing lithium-ion technology.

In the future, the FFB can also qualify future and post-lithium-ion cell concepts (including new materials, manufacturing processes, process technologies and manufacturing systems) and advance them up to the production of pilot or small series. The training of specialist staff along the entire educational chain and the envisaged integration effect of the research scene should generally lead to an increase in the attractiveness of Germany as a location for battery cell production.

The aim is to plan and implement the battery cell research production in two construction phases. The implementation of the 2 construction phases takes place at different times on 2 plots of land.

The aim of the first phase of construction (1st BA) is to ensure the fastest possible start of research in the Hansa Business Park in Münster. The 1st BA comprises 3 main components: a department with office space and social areas, a production area and a laboratory area. A usable area is expected to be around 6,400 square meters.

The client intends to commission a general contractor for the planning and construction of the 1st construction phase on the basis of a functional description of services with a service program and a supplementary room book.
