The institutes are industry-oriented research institutes with a focus on microsystems technology, microtechnology, microelectronics, sensors, lab-on-a-chip and molded interconnect devices. Since the construction project is subsidized by public funds, the Hahn-Schickard-Gesellschaft is treated like a public client.
