It is intended to realign the Kamenz school location (grammar school / high schools). For this purpose, the historic building at Henselstrasse 14 is to be activated again as a grammar school and expanded. The existing building of the former Lessing School, with its history going back more than 100 years, is of great importance for urban planning as a single monument. It is to be integrated and upgraded in the overall concept. In addition to the necessary structural measures for the resumption of school use (2012 construction-related closure of the external location of the Kamenz grammar school), the associated energy optimization is also planned. In the course of the renovation, the complex will also be accessible and the outdoor facilities will be extensively redesigned. After an already implemented 1st building phase, construction measures in connection with the construction of the intermediate building and extension building to create the final state (2nd building phase) are carried out on the old building Henselstrasse: sealing of the external walls in contact with the ground, renewal of the auditorium / restoration as a meeting room, installation of suspended ceilings, Interior insulation window reveals, ceiling insulation 2nd floor to attic, renewal of windows / window sills, reconditioning of historical interior and exterior doors, equipment with sun protection / darkening systems, facade painting, painting u. Floor laying work. For the development of the school location Henselstraße as the central grammar school of the city of Kamenz, not only the listed building ensemble of the Lessing school has to be restored, but the necessary space for the modern operation of a three-class grammar school has to be created in a new extension to be built. Structurally, parallel to the listed ensemble of the old Lessing School, east of this, the extension is arranged as a linear four-storey building block. Together with the historic old building, this forms a protected three-sided inner courtyard. The distinctive head building of the extension building corresponds in terms of urban planning along Oststraße with the listed sports hall of the old building. The new entrance building with a central staircase and elevator is located as a link in the focal point of the complex on the south side and is reached from the extension of Haberkornstrasse. The connecting hall connects and makes all levels of the two buildings accessible to each other.
