Bedford Hospital require a self-contained temporary theatre facility with clinical capability to deliver elective and emergency procedures (including orthopaedics).

Bedford Hospital will be carrying out works to our current operating theatres. To support ‘business as usual’, the Trust intend to procure the rental a Temporary Fully Managed Theatre Facility (including all fixtures, equipment and maintenance services) to support all Elective, Trauma and Orthopaedic Activity.

This facility will be rented for up to 5 years, with a break clause after 2 years that allows the Trust to remove the facility at any time during the remaining contract period (when it is no longer required). The facility should be stand alone, but movable to other locations on site (if needed). The Trust will provide services to the building (such as electricity, water, waste).

This temporary theatre is intended to support Trust business needs in the short term. All medical equipment will be included as part of the rental sufficient to carry out a wide range of procedures.

The temporary theatre facility will be a clinical environment suitable for general, specialist (including orthopaedics) and Trauma procedures — it is up to the provider to ensure that the equipment provided is suitable for these outputs. (The Trust will not be providing equipment)

Minimum facility specifications must consist of:

— Anaesthetic room.

— Operating Theatre (with laminar flow).

— Minimum of 2 bed first-stage recovery area.

— Staff changing room.

— Toilet with washbasin.

— Utility/storage areas.

— HTM03-01 Compliant Ventilation system.

— HTM02-01 Compliant Medical Gases with integrated medical gas banks, vacuum and scavenging systems.

— Compliance with HTM requirements (electrical, specialist services etc.)

— Available area at site: 22m long * 7.2m wide south * 8m wide north (See site drawing) (subject to discussion).

Trust will provide:

— Electrical Supply: 125 Amp 3 phase power.

— Water Supply.

— Foul drainage.

— Telecommunications (minimum of 2 Connections).
