Brussels Airport is a 'category 10' airport in the European aviation regulations EASA. The categorization determines, among other things, the available amount of extinguishing agents (water, foam and powder) and the minimum number of crash tenders in accordance with the maximum response time in the event of an aircraft crash or fire.
To comply with these regulations, Brussels Airport Company will purchase 4 crash tenders type 6x6 (Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighting Fleet crash tender) with an expected delivery date in 2024. One of these vehicles must be equipped with an HRET (High Reach Extendable Turret) and a piercing tool.
The maintenance of these crash tenders is planned for 15 years during which the supplier is responsible for preventive and curative maintenance and in which the maintenance department of Brussels Airport Company, VMS, tackles the first interventions.
