PLC components

GSI develops control systems for the accelerator infrastructure, e.g. Vacuum control, high-energy beam guidance, refrigeration systems, security gates and distribution and supply systems. A framework agreement is to be concluded regarding the purchase of the required components for the assembly of the control systems.

We intend to conclude a framework contract with an economic operator. Contract term 4 years.

At an early stage of the FAIR project, the control and IT technical "framework" was set for this, which would be crucial for a later evaluation with regard to, for example, technical compatibility. With the help of the experience and know-how of control colleagues from CERN, a decision was made in favor of a strategy for control systems closer to the accelerator.

- To implement the FAIR vacuum and cryo control system, the CERN framework UNICOS (development and code generation environment) should be used, which was developed by CERN especially for the creation of the control of the LHC cryogenic control. As a consequence of the decision in favor of the UNICOS framework, the choice for WinCC OA as the FAIR SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) system follows, by means of which data acquisition, visualization and the operation of (control) processes should take place. It is the only SCADA system that is both compatible with UNICOS and CentOS / RedHat Linux, which represents the GSI / FAIR-side operating system environment of the complete accelerator control system. Since only the Siemens Simatic S7 series was in use at GSI, of the two UNICOS compatible control lines Schneider Modicon and Siemens Simatic S7, an industrial control group within the accelerator electronics at GSI / FAIR with special knowledge in the fields of UNICOS framework, SIEMENS Simatic S7, Simatic ET200 and Siemens Simatic HMI (WinCC OA SCADA), which developed a large number of first prototype systems in this context. Only the product components from Siemens AG from the areas of Simatic S7, Simatic ET200, Simatic Scalance and Simatic HMI meet the customer's existing needs.
