The primary school at the Alter Markt in Rostock is in great need of renovation. Approximately 300 pupils in grades 1-4 are currently learning here in primary school classes, speech therapy classes and LRS classes. Before and after class, the pupils are looked after in the after-school care centre of the Rostock Stadt e.V. district association.

A traffic situation in the eastern old town of Rostock that is not conducive to the pupils, a lack of or insufficient open spaces, and a lack of green spaces require a change of location of the school complex.

The future school location is the area of the theatre workshops between the Küterbruch and Above the Gerberbruch in Rostock.

Among other things, the planned construction site will house the theatre workshop of the Volkstheater Rostock, which will also receive a replacement building elsewhere in the future.

Accordingly, the majority of the existing buildings are to be demolished. The houses in Gerberbruch No. 4 and No. 6 are to be preserved and integrated into the replacement building of the school complex.
