Mayo County Council, as lead partner for the Ballintubber Abbey Restoration Project, has received funding to restore and reconstruct the east range of Ballintubber Abbey as a cultural and heritage-based visitor attraction. The new building, comprising three floors, will house exhibition space, galleries and interactive technology to convey to visitors the history of Ballintubber and its Abbey in the context of the evolution of Christianity. Integral to the project are additional visitor facilities including lifts and stairs, toilets and offices.
