Description:

The Danish Meteorological Institute, DMI, provides meteorological and related services for the community within the large geographical area of the Kingdom of Denmark, including surrounding waters and airspace.

The production of near real time ice charts of the Greenland waters is part of DMI’s operational year round obligations, as a 24/7 activity. Data products and services for the South Greenland Waters in particular have very high priority for DMI as well as the marine community. Accurate and timely ice charts are considered indispensable for vessels navigating in ice infested Greenland waters. High quality and timely SAR data constitutes the most important input data source for this activity and lack of these data may consequently endanger transport operations and negatively affect the Greenland society.

DMI therefore intends to sign contract concerning operational supplies of satellite synthetic aperture radar data and additional related services (i.e. iceberg detection/classification services or services showing ice displacements, ridges, rafting or thickness of ice.). Options regarding rights to redistribute processed SAR Data and options regarding selected data outside the South Greenland Waters will be required.

DMI intends to be independent of a single satellite system – the intention is to base the supplies on at least two independent satellites.

The contract is intended to have a duration period of two years starting 1.1.2013, with options of up to two 12 month extensions, in total 24 months.
