With the establishment of the National Climate Initiative, the BMU has established a consulting service for municipalities in the field of climate protection. This has been continuously developed as a "Service and Competence Center: Local Climate Protection". The SK: KK offers municipalities in Germany comprehensive advice on subsidy opportunities in municipal climate protection and mobilizes municipalities that are not yet actively involved in the implementation of climate protection goals. Due to the continuing need for advice and mobilization of municipalities for climate protection and the continuation and expansion of the promotional offer of NKI, for example through the envisaged amendment and extension of the municipal directive on 1.10.2018, a seamless continuation of the operation is required. Moreover, from the budget analysis commissioned by the Federal Cabinet ("Spending Review") on the policy area "Climate / Energy" concrete recommendations for action have been derived, which are to be implemented.

With the establishment of the National Climate Initiative (NKI) in 2008, the Federal Ministry for the Environment established an advisory service ("Climate Protection Service") for municipalities in the field of climate protection. This advisory service was commissioned twice in 2012 and 2015 and has been steadily developed as the "Service and Competence Center: Local Climate Protection" (SK: KK). The SK: KK offers municipalities in Germany (cities, municipalities and rural districts) comprehensive advice on subsidy opportunities in municipal climate protection. In addition, it supports municipalities in the implementation of their climate protection activities through specialist and networking events and mobilizes communities that are not yet actively involved in the implementation of climate protection goals. As of March 31, 1919, the currently commissioned service for the operation of the SK: KK expires. Due to the continuing need for advice and mobilization of municipalities for climate protection and the continuation and expansion of the promotional offer of NKI, for example through the envisaged amendment and extension of the municipal directive on 1.10.2018, a seamless continuation of the operation is required. In addition, from the budget analysis commissioned by the Federal Cabinet ("Spending Review") on the policy area "Climate / Energy" concrete recommendations for action have been derived, which are to be implemented as part of the new assignment and further development of the SK: KK.
