In November 2015 the Staffordshire Health and Wellbeing Intelligence group produced a report on Diabetes Prevention. This report indicated that with improvements in awareness, early diagnosis and recording; and the current obesity trend; the prevalence of Diabetes across Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire will continue to increase and will be 8.7 percent by 2020 and 11.3 percent by 2030.
The necessary lifestyle changes, the complexities of management and the side effects of therapy make education for people with diabetes a central part of diabetes management.
