In this competition, the Netherlands Space Office (NSO) and the Food Security Department of the Executive Board of Inclusive Green Growth (IGG) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs challenge entrepreneurs to contribute to food security and sustainable land and water use in Africa and the Middle East by develop services that make existing open access geographic (satellite) datasets more accessible and widely deployable. With this competition, NSO and IGG want to gain more insight into factors that contribute to impact and successful implementation of innovative services.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate provide a total budget of €600,000 for this competition through the Netherlands Space Office. This total amount is divided between stages 1 and 2. The amounts mentioned are incl. VAT.

A total amount of €300,000 has been made available for Phase 1 of the competition. A budget of up to €50,000 is available for each of the proposals for this phase.

These six parties may submit a follow-up proposal after phase 1. Of these, the 3 top-rated follow-up proposals will be admitted to phase 2 and a total budget of €300,000 will also be available for this phase. The remaining budget of phase 1 can be pushed to phase 2, with a budget between €60,000 and €100,000 in phase 2 available for further development of a working prototype of the intended innovation.
