It has been decided that the current 66 kV network though Lofoten shall be upgraded to a 132 kV network due to the old network reaching its technical lifetime and a lack of transferring capacity and redundancy. The licence application for the voltage upgrade was sent to the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE) in spring 2014.

The system that has been applied for involves an approx. 101 km aerial wire with inserted submarine cables, as well as new transformer stations in Kvitfossen and Svolvær in addition to upgrading Kleppstad transformer station (all of these stations are located in Vågan municipality).

The stations will be constructed over the course of a few years. The construction of Kvitfossen station will start autumn 2015, whilst we estimate that work on Svolvær transformer station will start in summer 2017. Kleppstad transformer station will be upgraded in two phases, in the last half of 2016 and at the start of 2019.

Lofotkraft would like a contract for the delivery of four transformers for 3 stations, where a confirmed order per station will be placed approx. 1 year before the delivery deadline.
