Purchasing ready to use and ready to administer injectables simplifies the medication administration process in the near patient areas and could dramatically reduce the chance of calculation and mixing errors.
Participating Trusts within the East Midlands currently have insufficient capacity for the aseptic production of ready to use injectable drugs to meet their expanding needs, therefore a supplier/supplier(s) are sought to supplement the current service through the provision of a high quality, cost effective service to supply ready to administer injectable products.
It is proposed to award contracts with individual suppliers for each of a range of products. The product range will be determined by a sourcing group (membership determined by East Midlands Pharmacy Consortium).
The term "Ready to Administer Injectable Product" is intended to mean that the product is presented in a syringe or infusion bag that requires no further manipulation prior to administration. However, under this contract East Midland.
Pharmacy collaborative is happy to consider innovative technological solutions which may be used to minimise, but not remove, the need for manipulation prior to administration and give advantages in increasing shelf life and reducing waste.
