On the grounds of the Meldorfer Community School in Weiderbaum 4, a new extension is being built after an existing wing has been dismantled.
The new building, which is to be founded on piles, consists of a basement level, the “" platform "” in concrete construction with public use areas and specialist class rooms, as well as two “" point houses "” in timber element construction standing on the platform, which house the general classrooms.
The roof area of the platform will become part of the schoolyard by applying a landscape roof and blends amorphously into the existing topography.
The outer shell of the building consists of facing brickwork in the area of the platform. The two rising point houses are given a light metal façade.
The redesign includes ~10850m² of outdoor spaces. The paved schoolyard areas are finished with islands of grand, perennial and modelled lawns or fall protection areas including granite seating walls. Angled supports are installed in parts. A hedge-covered bicycle parking facility with an integrated fenced rubbish site and a fenced-in school garden with raised beds to the east will be attached.
The school areas are complemented by existing equipment (offset play equipment, various works of art, seating furniture, bicycle roofs) and by a wooden deck, new play/sports equipment and equipment. Box gutters and paving gutters, as well as drain grates, are used for surface drainage. The schoolyard is surrounded by a hedge and fence. On the roof of the new building with intensively green areas and concrete stone paving, steps and an outdoor staircase made of wood with handrails are being built. It will be equipped with benches and waste bins. Angle supports are installed for terrain clamping. As part of the planting work, various trees and different combinations of varieties for the perennial grasses and shrub areas are being developed.
