Elly-Heuss-Knapp-Schule Darmstadt - Renovation of existing building and new extension -
Object planning of outdoor facilities according to Part 3 Section 2 HOAI
The contract includes the object planning of outdoor facilities in accordance with Part 3 Section 2 HOAI, for the design of the open spaces of the Elly-Heuss-Knapp-Schule as part of the renovation of the existing buildings and a new extension. A step-by-step commissioning of LPH 3-9 services is planned. As a special achievement, the »selection of plants at the supplier« and the »preparation of an outdoor plant stock documentation« are to be commissioned.
The Elly Heuss Knapp School (EHKS) is a primary school that consists of 5 buildings in total: The administration building marks the start of the school in the north, followed by three parallel, bar-shaped school and class wings. The gym and the sports field form the southern end. The five buildings are connected by covered corridors; schoolyards are located between the school buildings. The Elly Heuss Knapp School has been listed as a typical example of 1950s and 1960s architecture in Darmstadt since 2015.
The school is currently suffering from a significant lack of space due to changes in all-day care and the pedagogical concept. So there is a space requirement of 4 classes / classrooms with differentiation rooms as well as a full-day area. A new building is to be built for these rooms. In addition, there is a high need for renovation of the existing buildings.
Project goals:
A. Project objectives Object planning Open spaces:
,
Further development of existing schoolyards
Consideration of monument protection (see annex project objectives)
The external development of the existing school buildings consists of covered arcades. Through the access system and the open construction of the entire school, interesting »in-between spaces« are formed, which characterize the urban ensemble of the school as individual school gardens and schoolyards.
,
Integration of new buildings
,
The courtyards between the new building and the existing buildings could be designed as individual break areas, each with its own character and different uses. The design concept could link the interior and exteriors thematically (materials, colors, uses) and geometrically (inclusion of axes from the new buildings, proportions façade new construction, etc.). The courtyards could, for .B, also serve as "switchable" green classrooms.
,
Measures existing outdoor facilities
,
Courtyards in the eastern connection to the new building, from north to south:
