The bridge will link the Fisheries Field area to the main NUI Galway campus.

Applications are invited from suitably qualified main contractors who wish to be considered for inclusion on the tender list from which tenders will be invited. It is NUI Galway's intention to appoint a single Main Contractor. It will be the responsibility of the main contractor to procure subcontractors for various packages.

The total length of the main bridge is approximately 40m and the approach bridge is approximately 12m. Building over a canal will pose a number of challenges such as, but not restricted to:

— Restrictions to work methodologies in a busy city location,

— Logistical and management challenges for the successful contractor,

— Material transportation,

— Limited and confined area for craineage,

— Working in a live student campus area,

— Working in close proximity to a protected structure,

— Working in an environmentally sensitive area,

— Working over water.
