Dudley College are inviting expressions of interest from suitably qualified and experienced construction contractors to be considered for a selected list of tenderers in connection with the design and construction of a new four storey manufacturing and engineering block. In recent years the college's buildings have been distributed over a number of sites and following a review of their estate the college has embarked on a programme to relocate the college to new sites in the centre of Dudley Town to form one overall campus. Phases 1 and 2 have been completed and the Centre for Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering Technologies (Dudley Advance) is the next proposed phase. The 0.8 acre development site will total 2,684m2 of accommodation and include specialist workshops, classrooms, resource areas, enterprise and innovation zones together with student welfare and support facilities.
A professional design team consisting of a Lead Consultant, Architect, Civil and Structural Engineer, Building Services Engineer and CDM Co-ordinator have already been appointed and the project has reached RIBA Stage D. It will be the intention to develop the design and seek tenders at RIBA Stage F. It may be the intention to novate key design services to the successful contractor.
It may be the college's intention to procure post contract services as a fully co-ordinated BIM (Building Information Model) with a view to delivering an "as built" BIM in line with the UK Government deliverables for COBie and/or Level 2 BIM. Suitably qualified contractors may be required to demonstrate their experience and deliverables in this capacity.
The contract will be a JCT with Contractor's Design. The proposed start date on site is June 2013 with the intention to be operational by July 2014. The estimated construction value excluding VAT, consultant fees, specialst fixtures, fittings and IT installation is approximately 5 000 000 GBP.
