PTB BS - New Bio Chemistry Building
Service to be awarded: Project control and BIM management (BIM-M) with step-by-step commissioning of project stages 2 to 5.
The planned new building for the biochemistry department is a new research facility for the departments of "General and Inorganic Chemistry" and "Biochemistry".
A decision document for construction (ES-Bau) was prepared by the Braunschweig State Construction Management, which was approved in August 2022 and approved by the Federal Ministry of Finance (BMF) with a cost cap of EUR 41,659,000.00 incl. 19% VAT.
(plus ancillary construction costs KG 710 to 740).
The development of an economical and cost-effective concept is the primary goal of the construction project. The principles of sustainable planning and construction (BNB) must be adhered to and taken into account for the operation and maintenance as well as for the subsequent use of the property.
Rough deadlines for the course of the project:
- Commissioning of the service to be awarded: expected 12/2023
- Kick-off meeting with specialist planners: expected 08/2024
- Design document construction, submission: expected 07/2025
- Start of construction: expected 05/2027
- Completion of building: expected 04/2030

The new building of the Biochemistry Department is a new research facility for the departments of "General and Inorganic Chemistry" and "Biochemistry".
The Max Planck Building, in which the departments are currently (partially) housed, can no longer meet the structural and technical requirements for rooms for modern research in the field of "Metrology in Chemistry" in the existing building cubature. Accordingly, clean rooms, measuring rooms, laboratories with classification S3** (Directive 2000/54/EC) and laboratories with non-classified safety class will be newly built in the research functional area. The research rooms require a considerable proportion of technical space for ventilation and air-conditioning technology above the corresponding rooms.
The workplaces of the employees in offices are another component of the space requirement. Furthermore, PTB needs a larger conference area in the northern part of its property, which can also be accommodated in this concept.
Thus, the space requirement can be described as comprehensive and complex.
