Redesign and extension of Südpark Kelsterbach pond
Provisionally chargeable costs:
800,000 EUR net (rough cost estimate!)
Information about the entire project:
As part of the “Growth and Sustainable Renewal” urban development program in Hesse, an integrated urban development concept (ISEK) was developed for the “Climate Island Kelsterbach” program area. The ISEK also includes measures for the development of the urban south park and the perennial pond in Kelsterbach. Südpark and perennial pond are located south of Kelsterbach's city center as a consequence of a former gravel pit facility. The two open spaces border on the supra-regional landscape areas of the Rhine-Main Regional Park. This includes woody plants and field corridors.
A non-open one-stage landscape planning competition was launched in November 2020 for the upgrading and further development of South Park and perennial pond. The aim of the process was to find a concept that would strengthen the two open spaces in their functions as natural, recreational and leisure spaces in the future. In addition, both areas must be interlinked with the urban fabric.
The concept of the landscape architecture firm bbzl böhm benfer zahiri from Berlin was awarded the 1st prize. The office is now tasked with planning the outdoor facilities for the redesign and further development of Südpark Kelsterbach. As part of the redesign, the existing pond system needs to be renewed and expanded. This should be done on the basis of the design specifications from the competition concept.
In the course of further planning, the design specifications must be specified by the office bbzl. The planning of outdoor facilities and hydraulic engineering should be closely coordinated.
Information about the existing pond:
- There are only very few basics about the pond so far, these are to be requested from the client below.
- It is around 30 years old, has a surface area of approximately 2,150 square meters and is to be renewed and expanded as part of the planning process.
- It is a foil pond with a concrete edging. The pond is up to 1.4 m deep.
- For cleaning, the three pond segments can be separated from each other by locks. In a cycle of 5 years, all three pond segments are emptied and cleaned one after the other.
- The pond is fed by well water.
- The overflow is via a road drain into a seepage system. The overflow is no longer fully functional at the moment.
- There is a relatively large fish stock. This has to be taken into account in the construction project for the pond system.
- The necessary construction costs are to be determined in the course of preliminary planning. So far, only a rough cost estimate has been available.
