After the cessation of coal production, dewatering must continue to be carried out in the mine buildings in order to permanently rule out environmental damage such as an impairment of the groundwater due to the rise in the mine water level. For this task, RAG Aktiengesellschaft (RAG AG) has developed a so-called mine water concept for the Ruhr area, which is to be implemented step by step.

Part of this mine water concept includes the Lohberg site. RAG AG is planning to make the mine water drainage system at the Lohberg dewatering site future-proof.
In order to discharge the mine water from the Lohberg mine, suitable routes were worked out in the course of preliminary planning, which extend from the mine site to the discharge into the Rhine. This preliminary planning was extended to include the route of the mine water drainage from the Hünxe shaft to Lohberg.

Various aspects, such as the ecological impact or real estate issues, require a verification of the current preliminary planning. If necessary, it will be necessary to examine and plan further variants. The aim of the preliminary planning is to designate a route that can be approved. These must then be further developed and put out to tender in the further course of the project so that they are ready for construction. Once the construction work has been successfully awarded, the construction measures are to be monitored on behalf of RAG AG.

No plans have yet been drawn up for the discharge structure into the Rhine.

In addition to engineering planning services, other special services must be provided. These include, among other things, local construction supervision and the preparation of a subsoil report (including execution of the necessary exploratory work and geotechnical construction supervision).
