The Abfallwirtschaftsbetrieb Limburg-Weilburg (AWB) is the responsible for the waste management of the district own business. For the recycling of compostable waste, there are 2 composting plants in the district. It is intended to announce the operation of the composting plant in Beselich in the competitive dialogue for five to seven years.
The Beselich composting plant was built in 1997 in the operator model and has an approved processing capacity of 36,000 Mg of biowaste and 14,900 Mg of green waste. The current operator will upgrade this plant in the period from November 2018 to November 2019 on the basis of a specially requested and issued permit. The Limburg-Weilburg district currently processes around 18,000 Mg of organic and green waste at this plant, while the remaining quantities are acquired by the operator from other local authorities.
The existing operator agreement ends on 30.9.2020. On this date the composting plant, ie the real estate becomes the property of the district. The future operation of the composting plant will be tendered on the basis of the current permit. The composting plant will be made available to the future operator on a leased basis. The service to be provided by the operator includes, in addition to the composting of biowaste and green waste, the marketing or disposal of the generated substance groups, the provision of mobile working equipment and vehicles. The compost produced must meet the quality requirements of the Gütegemeinschaft Kompost.
