The award includes the pumping of wastewater from the small sewage treatment plants and drainless pits in the urban area of the city of Geldern as well as the transport and transfer of the wastewater to the sewage treatment plants of the Niersverband in Geldern and Kevelaer.

In accordance with Section 56 of the Water Resources Act and Section 46 (1) No. 5 of the State Water Act, the City of Geldern is obliged to empty the property drainage systems located in its urban area in the outdoor area, unless they are exempt from sewage sludge disposal by the Lower Water Authority. The plants to be disposed of are mainly located in the urban outskirts.

At present, 192 drainless pits, 10 semi-biological small sewage treatment plants, 70 constructed wetlands and 540 fully biological small sewage treatment plants have to be disposed of.
