The district of Marburg-Biedenkopf intends to expand the existing district administration in Marburg. The extension building joins the north side of the existing district administration.
In addition to new offices, a canteen and a conference area will also be created. The building has three full floors with a basement and can be classified as a special building in building class 5 due to its usage units, with a size of > 400 square meters, as well as the requirements of the conference area and the canteen as a meeting place.
The extension creates two inner courtyards with different characters. Assigned to the main entrances to the existing building and the extension is the public courtyard. Its main task is to create a representative space and overcome the 2m difference in height between the entrances and the street or parking lot level.
Equipped with wooden decks and planted with trees, usable rooms with a high quality of stay are created. A simple handrail made of flat steel provides additional safety. The two large islands will have a tread-resistant and drought-tolerant lawn. Three pole luminaires with spotlights ensure safe and atmospheric lighting.
The second courtyard is being built in a "pocket" on the west side of the extension. This is where the outdoor area and the canteen are located. Taking up the design language from the public courtyard, two islands with a gravel bed form small lounge areas. Bollard lights, a seating wall and a courtyard tree complete the protected atmosphere.
The connection to Schubertstraße is warped over the pavement. The side entrance to the existing building remains barrier-free via a short ramp. All paved surfaces are made with a high-quality concrete pavement. Thanks to the wild association, the complex height situation can be elegantly reproduced. At the same time, a harmonious picture is created with the small natural stone pavement on the sidewalks.
