Construction work for university buildings. The new build facility will be occupied by 140 University of Liverpool researchers and up to 100 researchers from industry partners. It will create shared central analytical facilities, a new high-throughput formulation laboratory, and maximise usage and leverage for the University's pre-existing, leading capabilities in molecular biosciences, as well as integrating these with existing research facilities within the Donnan Building. Flexible, specialist workspaces will also permit researchers from other industrial and academic collaborators to use the open-access equipment at the University via a ‘research hotel' concept. The new build element of the project will incorporate the demolition of the existing lecture theatre, although it is possible this will be carried out as an enabling package ahead of the main contract award. The new building will incorporate research labs, office accommodation and associated ancillary spaces over 4 storeys (plus roof top plant spaces). The University require the new building to achieve a Breeam Excellent rating. The new building will connect to the existing Chemistry Buildings which will be in use throughout the contract period. Refurbishment of the existing buildings will also be required as part of the project. Areas for refurbishment could include research labs, office accommodation as well as circulation, plant and service spaces. The new building is located within the heart of the University Campus and the site is extremely tight. Adjacent buildings will be in use throughout the construction period for both teaching and research. The net construction budget will be in the region of 20 000 000 GBP.
