Aberdeen Heat & Power (AHP) Ltd is a not for profit organisation which was set up by Aberdeen City Council to develop and operate district heating and CHP (Combined Heat and Power) schemes to deliver heat to primarily flatted properties and public buildings.
AHP is a community conscious organisation and has a priority of supplying heat to hundreds of residents in the Aberdeen area- setup with the prime purpose to reduce fuel poverty, but also to reduce their carbon footprint. The scheme has been developed since 2002, but is expected to double in size in the next 2 years.
AHP have 3 sites currently.
Each site currently consists of a gas powered engine and generator with standby boilers. Heat from the gas engine is used to heat the local district heating network while generated electricity is primarily exported, although a small portion is used for boiler and pumping services. At times when the generator is off, line electricity is imported for these services.
