London Waste Ltd’s EcoPark Energy Centre has five boilers and in them burns circa 500 000 tonnes of refuse annually by operating 24 hours per day continuously throughout the year except for maintenance periods. Steam from each boiler is produced at a rate of about 40 tonnes per hour at a pressure of 41 bar and super heated to 415°C before being used to drive Steam Turbine generators.
Each boiler is taken out of service for a period of approximately four week after a campaign of about forty four weeks for their statutory survey, cleaning and repairs.
During these survey periods Boiler Superheaters are replaced, a comprehensive NDT programme is undertaken and boiler tubes replaced as necessary; boiler mountings are removed and overhauled prior to surveyor’s inspection: the grate upon which the refuse is burned is overhauled; Auxiliary Plant associated with the boilers is overhauled including maintenance of the Electrostatic precipitators, Steel plate work is renewed as necessary, much of this work requires Thermal Insulation to be removed and replaced, similarly as well as maintenance of the refractory lined areas inside of the boiler its removal and replacement is generally required in association with boiler tube renewal.
The purpose of this contract is to make available at short notice the necessary labour resources and materials to be able to carry out the removal and replacement of thermal insulation and respond to the requirements of LondonWaste Ltd at short notice in the event of breakdown and in sufficient numbers in order to achieve completion target dates for survey associated works.
