UK Shared Business Services Limited as the Contracting Authority is putting in place a contract for the Natural Environment Research Council, National Oceanographic Centre. The National Oceanography Centre in Southampton operates 2 research vessels RRS Discovery and RRS James Cook. These vessels operate worldwide and require communication services which meet this challenge providing service at any longitude and at latitudes approaching the polar regions. The vessels provide a limited internet service to all staff. This service is managed on-board by the technical staff to optimise access to business systems and email the satellite connection also provides bandwidth supporting the telephone service from the vessel. Both vessels have a PABX exchange and the primary VSAT service allows 4 external lines to be served to any internal phone.
