The project is an extension to the Michelsenschule grammar school in Hildesheim. The growing number of pupils requires additional space that can no longer be accommodated in the existing building.

Likewise, the areas of the vocational high school (BG) and the vocational school, which are currently outsourced to the "Brauhausstraße" school abandoned by the city of Hildesheim, are to be accommodated at the Schützenwiese site of the Michelsenschule.

A holistic allocation of planning, construction work and financing (at least interim construction financing) is to take place on the basis of a service programme. The operation and maintenance of the school complex remain with the building management of the district. The aim is thus to award a total contractor. The planning is based on the space program specified by the school authority.

There are already temporary classroom containers on the school property to bridge the lack of space. As part of a "Phase 0", various variants were developed in order to provide an optimal solution for the space requirements.

The general teaching areas of the lower secondary level (5th - 10th grade, four-course) cannot be accommodated in the existing building. These school classes are to be accommodated in a new building. After replanning, the existing building can accommodate the upper school, vocational high school, BBS, specialist classrooms, ancillary rooms, administration and - with the restrictions from the existing building stock - the function of "sports hall".

The subject of the preliminary design (feasibility study) is the object planning for the construction of a new classroom wing for the general teaching areas of the lower secondary level.

The space program specified by the school authority includes 24 general classrooms, 6 differentiation rooms, as well as associated ancillary rooms, toilet facilities and technical rooms.

It should be noted that there are limited possibilities for expansion on the property, and there is a horse chestnut tree in the designated planning area, the preservation of which is prescribed in the B plan.

It must also be taken into account that the main building is a listed building.
