Vesar AS is an inter-municipal company owned by Horten, Holmestrand, Larvik, Færder, Sandefjord and Tønsberg Municipalities. The municipalities have a statutory obligation to treat household waste, and VESAR carries out these assignments on behalf of the owner municipalities.
The aim of the procurement is to have secure and environmentally friendly collection, transport, and treatment of residual waste for energy utilisation. In the long term, VESAR would like systems for increased material recycling of the residual waste content, but we believe that the market cannot offer such systems yet.
Vesar would like to stimulate the use of biogas from food waste, sewage sludge, pet manure, etc., as a replacement for fossile fuel when transporting residual waste.
A contract will be signed for the total amount of residual waste from normal household sanitation in all the owner municipalities. The waste must be collected from the two reloading stations in the region in Tønsberg and Larvik respectively. The contract will include an option for the inclusion of reject from Greve Biogass, which must be mixed into the normal residual waste during the reloading at Rygg.
The contract period for the assignment will be 3 years starting on 1 January 2021. In addition, the contract can be extended for 2 years, based on a mutual agreement.
The quantity of waste in 2019 was a total of 21 800 tonnes, of which 7 900 tonnes was from Grinda and 13 900 tonne from Rygg. The contest includes an option for the transport and treatment of reject from Greve Biogass. An estimated 8 400 tonnes of reject with approx. 60 % TS in the contract that will be mixed into the residual waste at Rygg reloading station.
Biogas is to be used as fuel for all transport of residual waste.
