Object planning for the renovation of the experimental hall (EH)
GSI is planning to obtain a new building permit for the old experimental hall, built in 1974. Since the original commissioning of the hall, changes have been made in the hall and expanded by the now dense "cave structure" for the experiments fed by the accelerator.
The renovation of the building adjacent to the south, Rapid Experiments (SE), requires the installation of a new ventilation system in EH. For this purpose, part of the basement is to be structurally separated. A new fire protection concept that considers the entire linear accelerator facility is currently in progress.
The property on which the building was erected is located in the district of Arheilgen (district of Darmstadt), corridor 24, no. 32/1 and belongs to the scope of the development plan B-Plan Wx12, which came into force on 08.04.2006. The properties of GSI, a federal research institution, have been designated as a special area (SO 1) and cover approx. 131,000 m2.
The old experiment hall of the GSI, which houses variable experimental units - so-called "caves" - by means of mobile shielding stones, was put into operation right at the beginning of the construction of the new GSI accelerator facility in the early 1970s. It was here that GSI's first experiments with accelerated ions were carried out.
Over the years, the accelerator has been further expanded and supplemented by the small ring accelerator SIS18 and the halls TR, EX and TH.
The FAIR project, which is already under construction, involves a significant expansion of the accelerator and experimental facilities on the GSI and FAIR campuses, and the existing GSI accelerator facilities serve as injectors for the FAIR project.
Building GFA: approx. 5,500 m2 (approx. 57.85 m x 43.205 m)
Building height hall: approx. 14.0 above GOK
Building height basement: approx. 2.60m
Number. Floors: 3 (supply cellar in the basement + two-storey experimental hall)
(EG + tlw. 1st floor (approx. 500m2 + airspace))
The planning tasks can be found in the tender documents.
