The research project is carried out within the framework of topic 5 "Renewable Energies" of the BMDV expert network. The aim of the BMDV expert network is to put the competencies of the participating authorities on a broad common basis, to network them more intensively with each other and thus to generate application-oriented research results for practice. Within the framework of the research project, the application potential of small wind turbines (KWEA) on the areas along the transport infrastructure of road and rail is to be investigated and the possible applications evaluated in order to make a further contribution to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. For this purpose, the traffic and ancillary traffic areas that have suitable technical and legal boundary conditions for the use of KWEA installations are to be identified and taken into account with regard to the different requirements for the modes of transport rail and road. As a result, the possible total installation potential and the amount of emission reduction by these renewable energy generation plants will be quantified. A detailed analysis of the on-site use and the technical feasibility serves to evaluate the application potential of the KWEA along the transport infrastructure. Finally, the legal boundary conditions for the technical and economic feasibility of realizing the KWEA potential are to be identified and necessary recommendations for action are to be derived.
