The SNCF is carrying out a project for a new workshop on the existing TER train maintenance site in Le Brézet, financed by the Auvergne Rhône-Alpes Regional Council, the TER organising authority.
The objectives of this industrial project are multiple: the first is to respond to the difficulties encountered for the maintenance of the trains linked to sharing between different sites (currently Nevers and Lyon Vaise, or other sites for the reprofiling of axles). This project should also make it possible to bring the trainset maintenance facilities closer to the operating area to improve the trainset utilization rate and the robustness of TER operations. Finally, the objective is to allow the operation of the 3 hydrogen trainsets planned from 2026 and open up the possibility of a greater deployment of this technology for the TER trains.
In total, about fifty trains will be maintained in the new workshop.

The project provides for:
• The creation of a 3-lane workshop with 2 "pit/gangway" maintenance lanes and 1 shared lifting track with an axle reprofiling facility
• A technical cleaning track suitable for long trains, adjacent to the workshop
• Tertiary premises adjoining the workshop
• A warehouse and spare parts storage area behind the workshop
• The creation of two storage lanes to be able to park up to one UM2 of B84500 per lane; These tracks are equipped with a platform to allow interior cleaning operations
• Various track works for the connections of the new installations
• The creation of railway facilities to connect to the hydrogen station
• The 3 external tracks in front of the workshop will be equipped with catenaries to test the electric powertrain.
• Adaptation of on-site facilities to facilitate movement and logistical operations (new track connections, improvement of full diesel stations, toilet emptying, full sand)
