The Governor's service vessel has been an important tool and aid in the Governor's duties since the 1930s. The current lease expires in 2012, so the new vessel must be in place from 2013 (approx. May 2013). The advertised tender is for lease of service vessels for the season 2013. The lease period is for five months, with an option for further extension for 1 + 1 months. This procurement is based on the current service.

At a later date a new tender contest will be published, comprising the lease of service vessel from 2014 - 2020, with option of 2 + 2 year prolongation.

The reason for the two-part tender contest is partly due to the Governor's helicopter service being upgraded to 2 large helicopters from 2014, which will alter the requirements of the service in relation to the current service. The publication of tender contest notice for the period 2014-2010 is scheduled for Atumn 2012.
