The purpose of the project is to investigate whether the requirements for quality in interpreting in the Interpretation Act are adequately met by interpreters who have completed the various qualification measures offered at Norwegian universities and university colleges. Among other things, the project will investigate whether the qualification measures are adequately organised, whether the academic content is well-chosen and adequate, regarding the use of resources in the schemes, etc.
The project will be organised into two sub-projects, the first of which will focus specifically on the Bilingual Test and courses in the interpreter's area of responsibility [tolkens ansvarsområde (TAO)] as this is the lowest entry requirement to be included in the National Register of Interpreters as a qualified interpreter. The second sub-project looks holistically at all interpreter qualifications (bilingual testing, courses, interpreter education and the authorisation scheme for interpreting) and the coherence of this qualification path for interpreters.

IMDi will appoint a reference group for the project, which will contribute to the work on the professional premises for data collection, analyses and recommendations from the project. The reference group will consist of people with no ties to the educational institutions that offer the qualification programmes in question, with special expertise in the validity and reliability of language testing, expertise in the evaluation of educational programmes and expertise in the field of interpreting.
