Description:
Costs due to the consequences of climate change in Germany - service contract on behalf of the Federal Environment Ministry (BMU)

The aim of the contract is to contribute to broadening knowledge of the economic effects of climate change on the German economy. The follow-up costs, i.e. the costs of climate damage caused by extreme weather events as well as the gradual progression of climate change (damage costs) and the costs of preventive adaptation measures (adaptation costs) that the German economy will have to face, must be considered systematically and comprehensively. The definition of the damage function (including damage and adjustment costs) is a central task here. With regard to the cost estimates of climate damage, both a retrospective (ex-post) analysis of the economic damage costs of an extreme weather event in Germany and a forward-looking (ex-ante) analysis of climate change-related economic damage and adaptation costs based on 3 different IPCCs should be carried out within the scope of the order -Scenarios and taking into account the current state of research.

The identification and addressing of actors for whom cost estimates of climate damage are already relevant or will only become of central importance in the future is another component of this project. In the context of project workshops, selected actors are to be networked and experiences with cost estimates on the effects of climate change are discussed. An accompanying review process serves to ensure a high professional standard in the implementation of the project. Furthermore, the results obtained are to be prepared for communication and public relations work in a target group-oriented manner.
