For the VWFS Wega, the annual class inspection with 2.5 annual underwater hull inspection according to classification specifications is scheduled for January 2024.
The ship is classified according to the regulations of the Lloyds Register (LR for short). The ship must be drained for the necessary inspections and inspections and must be brought to a shipyard for this purpose for approx. 6 weeks from January 2024 at the latest. Tests and acceptances must be carried out as part of the intermediate class inspection, including all necessary repair and maintenance work, in accordance with the regulations and under the supervision of the LR.
All ballast and drinking water tanks are opened, cleaned, assessed and, if necessary, repaired for the scheduled inspection.
In addition to the requirements of the classification society and the flag state (represented by Berufsgenossenschaft-Verkehr, BG-V for short), the layover time in dry dock or at the shipyard is used to carry out other necessary repair and maintenance work that has accumulated over the years since the last shipyard layover. Particularly noteworthy here is the major overhaul of the starboard-side davit winch. This is currently no longer operational due to several malfunctions or safety deficiencies. To do this, the winch must be disembarked, completely dismantled and assessed. Due to long delivery times, the subsequent return delivery will only take place after the actual docking time.
