The Swedish Agency for Marine and Water Management is working to produce data to provide an overview of the environmental status of Sweden's groundwater and surface water. This work includes, among other things, producing documentation for the status classification of Sweden's coastal and lake water bodies in accordance with the Water Management Ordinance.
This status classification requires monitoring data with high spatial resolution through satellite data.
In order to use algorithms for Sweden's lakes and coastal waters, they need to be verified and adapted for seasonal and local variations.
The mission includes that:
• develop and validate methodology for the production of satellite-based data for
status classification of chlorophyll a and depth of visibility for all coastal and coastal areas of Sweden.
lake water bodies (according to SVAR, Swedish Water Archive, version needs to be reconciled
with the water authority)
• carry out status classification based on satellite-based data for chlorophyll and depth of visibility for
All coastal and lake water bodies of Sweden
• presentation of time charts and trends for chlorophyll and depth of sight
• compare results for the status classification with results for Copernicus standard products
would have been used (excluded if Copernicus standard products are used as a basis for
mission)
• implementation of status classification to be reported by 31 December 2023
• Option to generate data for suspended solids and coloured dissolved organic matter from
satellitdata.
